Sentosa, October 26: Thailand’s Borworn Chaisri and Chan Yih-shin of Chinese Taipei carded matching seven-under-par 65s to earn top honours at the Barclays Singapore Open Qualifying on Monday. The duo led three other players – Australians David Bransdon and Jason King and another Thai Panuphol Pittayarat – into the star-studded US$5 million event which begins at the Sentosa Golf Club on Thursday. Bransdon and Pittayarat carded 67s while King, who shot a 68, survived an eight-man play-off for the fifth and final slot from qualifying when he birdied the first extra hole at the Tanjong course. Ireland’s Michael Hoey also carded a 68 but he was told before the start of the play-off that he had received a place in the main field after last week’s winner Michael Jonzon of Sweden withdrew, thus avoiding the drama of a shoot-out. On Sunday, Filipino Luis Dacudao, England’s Nick Redfern and Steven Tiley, Rafael Ponce of Ecuador and Switzerland’s Martin Rominger made it into the Barclays Singapore Open through qualifying as well. The Barclays Singapore Open, Asia’s richest national championship, will be co-sanctioned for the first time this year by the Asian Tour and European Tour. It begins on Thursday. World number two Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, K.J. Choi and Thongchai Jaidee are amongst the big guns who will be featuring in this week’s championship. Full results attached.
